Appreciating Two-End Talisman for Tottenham Hotspur
By Aaron Coe
Son scored and Kane assisted, but before that Harry Kane saved the day for Tottenham with a goal line clearance a play and player deserving of appreciation.
Before this season there were many who only thought of Harry Kane as a goal scorer, with his changing role in the Tottenham team, more are seeing the all-around game Spurs fans knew about all along. Kane’s all-around footballing skills often help Tottenham Hotspur on both ends of the pitch as was the case Monday evening at Turf Moor, where Harry Kane first maintained the shutout, then had a hand in sealing the win. We are going to break down Kane’s contributions to better appreciate some of the little things that make Harry Kane great!
The most visible aspect of Harry Kane’s game defensively is seen in the high press. It is easy to see if Kane is pressing or not and I know I have gotten on him about it but pressing is not necessarily his strength. Further the nature of the way Kane is being asked to press is different with Jose Mourinho than under the Mauricio Pochettino regime.
Under Pochettino, it was all about pressure everywhere on the pitch, capitalizing on any potential opportunity. With Mourinho, the pressing is more controlled and measured, looked for the right places to apply pressure and ceding some of the pitch. Frankly, this approach better suits Harry Kane, whose size, footballing smarts, a nose for the ball those are the top defensive traits he brings to the table, which Mourinho works to leverage.
