What’s next for Spurs midfielder Tanguy Ndombele?

It was only a year ago that Tottenham signed Ndombele for a club-record £63 million. But his role in Jose Mourinho’s team has been tough to read. Ndombele’s price tag won’t bother Mourinho one bit, especially as he wasn’t the manager when the deal was made. If Jose doesn’t think Ndombele is ready to be in the starting 11, he won’t play. It’s as simple as that.

Will Ndombele even be a Tottenham player once the transfer window shuts? We still have no more clues as to what his future holds as we did when the transfer window opened. According to Alasdair Gold of football.london, Spurs have no plans to sell Ndombele. But his lack of game time suggests Mourinho doesn’t have big plans for the midfielder. At least not right now.

Ndombele didn’t feature in any of Tottenham’s final four Premier League games of the season in July, not even making an appearance off the bench once. Maybe Mourinho sees Ndombele as a player for the future, but it was surprising to see him get such little playing time in the final stretch of the season.
