Four Tottenham players you’d want on your football tennis team
By Gary Pearson
In the new world of social distancing and self-isolation, having flash football tennis skills would come in handy if teams were permitted to train together.
Football tennis is a useful training tool. It helps fine tune tight footwork while maintaining a safe distance between participants. Going into battle with these four Tottenham players would elevate your chances of beating any quartet around.
4. Erik Lamela
Rabona and tiki-taka extraordinaire, Erik Lamela would most people’s first choice. The mastery he shows with the ball at his feet would serve well any football tennis team. He’d make most quartets in the world, such is the level of his tight-control acuity.
3. Son Heung-Min
Deceivingly skillful in tight quarters, Son Heung-Min has as deft a touch as most players in world football. And he’s deadly accurate with lofted lobs, too. The South Korean’s frame is tailor-fitted for football tennis, as he is rangy, agile and physically sound. He might not be an obvious pick, but he’s definitely an effective one.
2. Giovani Lo Celso
South Americans are known as much for their close control as they are for dances like the Samba and Salsa. You’ll notice two Argentinians make the grade for Tottenham’s football tennis team. No surprise there. Lo Celso has shown his ability to turn on a dime in close quarters, shedding anyone who tries to get close. Imagine that skill without being contested. He’s dominate, maybe even more than his compatriot on the team.
1. Dele Alli
Dele Alli loves pulling off a slick dummy or flick under duress. Just imagine what he could pull off as part of Spurs’ tennis football quartet. His lanky frame is particularly good for receiving and saving attempted kill shots. He cushions long balls with the greatest of ease and would be an asset to this team. He probably wouldn’t be chosen first, but is still deserving of his place.
