Lazio desire Olivier Giroud’s services but the Chelsea front man plans to wait to see how Tottenham’s interest develops before committing to the Italian club.

The Sun, Telegraph, Evening Standard, among others, reported Tottenham’s interest in the Arsenal and Chelsea reject before the winter transfer deadline a few weeks ago. Jose Mourinho never managed Giroud at Chelsea but is reportedly interested in the target man’s skill set.

Hopefully Spurs’ interest in Giroud is fleeting, bred more due to the club’s desperation to sign a replacement for the injured Harry Kane than a steady, concerted interest in the Chelsea man’s services.

While Giroud has his purpose, Tottenham faithful do not want sloppy thirds from a striker who has serviced two of the club’s most sworn enemies. The modern era is more forgiving of players bouncing between direct rivals, but a line has to be drawn somewhere. Yes, Spurs are still in desperate need of reinforcements up front, but surely they can source a striker who doesn’t give supporters the heebeegeebees.

And now that time is once again on Tottenham’s side before the summer transfer period opens, they’ll be able to hand select other, less polarizing and repugnant options. Don’t get me wrong, Giroud holds up play wonderfully and is one of the best at bringing his teammates into the fold. He’s good in the air and knows where the back of the net is.

dark. Next. Three things to watch for during Tottenham's visit to Villa Park

But I can’t support the prospective move knowing he bled and sweat for two of our most loathed adversaries. It’s best for Giroud to come to his senses and take the deal Lazio is offering because it’s only a matter of time before Tottenham lose interested in one of our sworn enemies.
