Ranking Tottenham’s top five performers so far this season
By Gary Pearson
3. Lucas Moura
Lucas Moura has taken his more influential role at Tottenham in stride, appearing in 23 of 25 Premier League matches. While he hasn’t been as prolific as most would like, the Brazilian is an integral part of Spurs attack. He has four goals and two assists, but his overall contribution to the team is about more than his middling offensive numbers suggest. He offers Spurs an outlet out of the back, and consistently puts defenders on the back foot; he isn’t afraid to drive forward at full tilt, offering something slightly different than his teammates.
Akin to every other player on this list, Moura’s season has seen it’s fair share of bumps. Some performances have fallen well below expectations, while others were salvaged by a moment of magic. For all his inconsistencies, Moura forever provides passion and determination. He won’t quit and has the capacity and skill to turn a game on its head. More is expected of Moura in the coming months, but he is still deserving of his place on the top five.
