Tottenham have reached deal with PSV over Steven Bergwijn

De Telegraaf have confirmed that Steven Bergwijn is bound for Tottenham after PSV agreed the £30 million offer late Monday night. 

This is Jose Mourinho’s second signing since joining Tottenham over three months ago. Bergwijn is seen as a versatile, adaptable forward who is as proficient playing from the left as he is in a central role.

This is massive news for a Spurs side who has been in desperate search of reinforcements up front in Harry Kane‘s absence. The 22-year-old has the power, skill and passing ability to impact proceedings in north London, and it will be extremely interesting to see how he takes to the Premier League.

This signing came from out of the blue, with little to no speculation before it picked up momentum on the weekend. Bergwijn left PSV in a hurry, and somewhat unceremoniously. Though nobody wants to see a professional leave their club in the lurch with hostility, PSV’s loss is clearly Tottenham’s gain in this case.

PSV, a club devoid of Champions League football this season, were in a serious pinch financially, and couldn’t turn down such a lucrative offer from Daniel Levy and company. While PSV sees £30 million as a pretty hefty financial windfall, Tottenham have deeper coffers – even though they don’t often show it – and believe £30 million is a fair price for a forward with heaps of upside.

Tottenham are still gunning for AC Milan’s Krzysztof Piątek. If they succeed in landing the Polish striker, Tottenham can consider themselves right back in the thick of things in vying for their fifth consecutive top four finish.

This is exciting news for Spurs fans across the globe, who will rejoice, even if they’re unsure whether Bergwijn has the constitution to be influential part of Spurs from the outset of his arrival in London.
