First half

Tottenham bagged their first Premier League goal in 2020, thanks to Dele Alli doing what he does best. Dele nipped in at the front post to deposit a precise Serge Aurier cross. While Spurs interplay started showing positive signs, it was Norwich’s carelessness that helped the home side to the lead.

Giovani Lo Celso was by far the best player on the pitch for Jose Mourinho’s side. The Argentinian showed relentless tenacity without the ball in tracking down Norwich players. And, by expertly dispossessing Todd Cantwell, he was rewarded for his outstanding defensive efforts. Lo Celso knocked it on to Aurier, who found Dele for Spurs first goal in almost a month, since the last time these two teams met.

By no means was it a perfect opening first half, but at least Tottenham, at times, picked up the tempo and showed positive intent on the ball. Lucas Moura made a few nice passes, while Son Heung-Min, Dele and Erik Lamela all threatened. Lamela almost found Moura on the back post with an unbelievable rabona turned cross.

Teemu Pukki unsettled Tottenham’s rearguard a few times and could have scored on the 16th minute attempt he mishit low and wide. A few extended periods of uninspiring play from Tottenham in the first half were overshadowed by Dele’s all important opener, his first in six top flight matches.

Tottenham now travel to Southampton for Saturday’s fourth round FA Cup match at St. Mary’s. It will be incredibly interesting to see what starting 11 Mourinho decides to go with on a short rest, after such a disconcerting home display.

Spurs supporters will take lot of solace in seeing their beloved club win for the first time in five matches.
