Defence

Paulo Gazzaniga 8/10

Guessing correctly on Troy Deeney‘s penalty, Paulo Gazzaniga saved wonderfully to keep the draw intact. He made the pivotal save when required. Enough said.

Japhet Tanganga 3/10

The rookie had all sorts of trouble dealing with Ismaïla Sarr’s pace, guile and physicality. It was a lesson of hard knocks for the 20-year-old, who did his utmost to keep up with the powerful Senegalese forward. Tanganga struggled with his distribution and doesn’t look particularly comfortable at left back. Tanganga was set up to fail in this one, and can’t be wholly at fault for his difficult day at the top level.

Toby Alderweireld 7/10

Steady and strong, Toby was the best of Spurs rearguard. Trying to marshal his colleagues, Toby did his job competently enough. Unlike Jan, Toby did well combatting Watford’s physicality.

Jan Vertonghen 2/10

Quite a few wayward clearances and a conspicuous hand ball that led to Watford’s penalty headlined the Belgian’s day. Other than working tirelessly, there’s not too many positives to take away from the veteran’s outing. He also lost more than his fair share of aerial duels.

Serge Aurier 6/10

The Ivorian had a bit of mixed bag today. He was spry and impactful in the first 20 minutes but struggled periodically otherwise. Unable to impact Tottenham’s offence other than via a cross that almost led to a Lamela winner at the death, Aurier was pinned back far too often.
