Let the Wilfried Zaha rumours spread like a cold in a frat house, as the Crystal Palace striker has a new agent keen to strike a deal with Tottenham.

We’ve been here before, many times in fact. The same hurdles from the past remain in the present. And those hurdles cannot be overcome due to Palace’s exorbitant asking price. Zaha is an incredibly talented footballer, but the 27-year-old Ivorian isn’t worth the outrageous £80 million Palace is requesting.

Zaha’s inconsistency and propensity to disappear into the background of games translates into an wildly unrealistic asking price. To be worth £80 million, you have to consistently be one of the best strikers in the world. You have to bag goals for fun and contribute all over the park. Zaha’s talent is unquestionable, but Tottenham cannot risk signing him as their marquee addition. The enigma might be worth £40 – £50 million and nothing more.

If you need more proof he’s not worth the money, Zaha has scored only three goals in 21 top flight appearances this season. That paltry return, regardless of the team you’re playing for, doesn’t warrant an £80 million transfer fee. Far from it.

This is one of those sensationalist rumours by the Mirror designed to accrue heaps and heaps of clicks. Way more clicks than Zaha produces goals. Don’t buy into the Mirror’s scandalous hyperbole. I won’t provide the link to the Mirror piece. If you really want to find it, which I don’t recommend, you’ll source it down faster than it takes for Zaha to miss a sitter from six yards out.

Next. Tottenham best served to keep midfielder around long term. dark

The recent rash of injuries are the least of our concerns if Tottenham inexplicably splash out and break the bank for such an inconsistent, enigmatic, unreliable forward.
