Aleksandar Mitrović is making headlines for Fulham in the Championship, with his influential performances being noticed by Tottenham and other clubs.

A Reputable report from 90min.com links the the front man with Spurs. Tottenham were also interested in signing Mitrovic in the summer, prior to the start of the 2019-20 campaign.

The target man scored 11 goals for Fulham in the Premier League last campaign and is the Championship’s top scorer this season. Scoring 18 goals in 25 appearances, Mitrović is one of the primary reasons Fulham are vying for a return to the top flight.

And that’s where the impediments start for Tottenham.

It’s hard to conceive of the Cottagers selling their prized asset at the time they need him most. Fulham is currently 5th place and would secure a playoff berth if the season ended today. Tottenham would have to pay a premium to rip Mitrović from Fulham’s boa constrictor grip. According to Transfermarkt, Mitrović is worth between £20 and £25 million. Daniel Levy would have to splash out far more than that for any chance of securing the Serbian’s signing.

It’s a shame, too, as Mitrovic is the kind of target man that could thrive in the top flight with Spurs. He’s brilliant in the air, tough as nails and works tirelessly for the collective. A wild horse that doesn’t conform, Mitrvoic also has a penchant for the dramatic. He’s no slouch with the ball at his feet either.

But I feel it’s all a moot point, at least in the January transfer period anyway. Spurs might have a chance at signing the forward in the summer, but by then they might no longer desire his presence. It’s probably a blessing in disguise. For all of his talent, purchasing Mitrovic now would feel like a move made out of necessity and not desire.

It's not all doom and gloom at Tottenham. dark. Next

He has Premier League pedigree but is by no means an established sure thing. So maybe it’s a good thing that Fulham, barring being offered an exorbitant fee, won’t part ways with their talisman, a player who holds the key to the Cottagers’ Premier League ambitions.
