Defence

Paulo Gazzaniga 8/10

Had it not been for a key few saves in the first half from a Middlesbrough free kick, Tottenham wouldn’t have earned a replay. He was strong when he needed to be and didn’t step a foot wrong.

Toby Alderweireld 6/10

Other than allowing Fletcher to get in behind him for Boro’s only goal, Toby had a pretty good game. His rating would have been much higher had he not fallen asleep momentarily. The Belgium had seven clearances and two blocked shots.

Jan Vertonghen 7/10

Jan was the most solid of the back line today. He was faultless on Boro’s only goal, had three tackles, interceptions and clearances to round off a pretty solid day at the office.

Eric Dier 5/10

A bit wayward once more, it was Eric Dier who kept Fletcher onside on Boro’s only goal. He conceded possession sloppily and has to be better. When a player, like Dier, lacks pace, he cannot afford to play such a high line. If you know you’re going to lose a foot race, why try execute such a high risk strategy?
