What does Spurs squad look like for the 2019-20 campaign?
By Aaron Coe
Tottenham’s attack
Although Spurs lost two back-ups in Janssen and Llorente, the unit should be strong this season. Harry Kane – when healthy and fit, which he looks to be – is one of the world’s best. Heung-Min Son was the team’s player of season last year and Lucas Moura provided one of the greatest sporting moments of our lives in the Champions League against Ajax. Add in the fact that Kane and Moura are both 26 and Son is 27 and you have three great attackers all in their primes.
Erik Lamela and Georges Kevin N’koudou add depth to the attack and have the talent to make an impact. Whether they stay healthy enough, Lamela, or stay out of the coaches’ doghouse, N’Koudou, is another question. Additionally, Dele, Eriksen, and Lo Celso all should be major contributors to the attack from the midfield, leaving Spurs with a lot of attacking power and depth.
Final thoughts
On paper, this is a deeper more complete team. Son and Moura have proven they can replace Kane, who seems determined to get back to his best. The midfield is younger and more talented than last year. The defence is strong, outside of questions surrounding right back.
If Kane stays healthy and assuming no one gets sold between now and February, this team is poised to take a stranglehold on at least third place in the Premier League, and with any luck could stay in the title race to the end.
Then again, a few injuries and players getting sold after the season begins and we could be left with a squad that runs out of gas down the stretch, similar to the 2018-19. But solid foundations are set, and Spurs are now equipped to make a real run at the Premier League crown.
