Tottenham’s Keepers

Tottenham only have two first team keepers this season, both of whom played last year and have the full faith and confidence of Pochettino. Hugo Lloris is our long-time Captain and still captain of World Champion France while Paulo Gazzaniga proved a ready replacement last season.

U-23 keeper Alfie Whiteman was given a number in the Premier League and is the third keeper. Not having Michel Vorm this season also frees up a spot for a foreign-born player on the Champions League team and Whiteman can qualify as, being homegrown, a B-list player.

Overall Spurs have a strong one-two at keeper punch, presuming both players can maintain focus. Lloris had a rollercoaster ride in 2018-19 from the highs of captaining France to World Cup glory to the lows of a drink-driving arrest, to the honour of captaining Spurs in the Champions League Final. Considering all of that and the lack of midfield protection for the defence, Lloris really was world class last season, producing 12 clean sheets, 101 saves, and saving two penalties in the league and another in the Champions League, right Sergio.

Gazzaniga proved his worth last season with Lloris out for the arrest, an injury and a red card in the Champions League. Gazza beat Watford in a Carabao Cup shootout and PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, among his 2018-19 highlights. With Gazzaniga and Lloris both back Spurs looked good in goal.
