Ndombele and Lo Celso both want Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur may already be feeling the benefits of their post-Champions League Final heightened profile, as two of the summer’s hottest prospects have said they want to move to North London.
In recent weeks both Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele have said that they would like to be allowed to move to Spurs sooner than later. There was a time not so long ago when players of that level who were also being chased by the likes of Juventus and Manchester United wouldn’t have considered the move to N17. They would have waited until they ran out of other options and joined Spurs at the end of the window.
That, though, has changed. That is one of the benefits that comes along with earning a berth in the Champions League final. The best players in the world are ambitious. They know how good they are and they want to test themselves against some of the other best players, to compete for trophies that children dream of in the schoolyard.
By cracking the Champions League final and making a solid impression on the world, Tottenham earned admiration and respect from all the top prospects. They have genuinely changed their profile in the eyes of the players around the world, an incredibly difficult thing to do for a team of Tottenham’s financial constraints. Every single member of the staff, from Daniel Levy down to the tea men and women at the training ground should be lauded.
But why haven’t they finished these transfers then?
Get them over the line Levy! Spurs fans deserve better than to be made to wait all summer so other clubs have every opportunity to steal these players away from the Tottenham faithful. They’ve been one of the most loyal and understanding support groups for ages, yet are still forced to cede points like this.
At the top level, £5 million should not make that much of a difference. If Real Betis want £55 million for Lo Celso then Tottenham should give it to them. Sign him and Ndombele immediately. They need to get these deals across the line as soon as is humanly possible. It will provide a great sense of calm and, in equal measure, anticipation for supporters, and even more importantly, for the players too.

It is important to build on your successes and not to rest on your laurels, letting great strides fade into the distance. Spending £100 million to improve the midfield will send a message to the team, one that makes clear the club’s expectations of exceeding last season’s high of making the Champions League Final. It would be a message of intent, putting the world on notice: Tottenham have every intention of fighting for a Premier League title, and everyone, including the players, knows it.
