Validation for selecting Harry Winks

Another Harry coming off a long-term injury, and yet another Harry that was rightly selected to start.

Winks and Moussa Sissoko, before Winks’ latest injury setback, formed a formidable midfield partnership. The pair, with Sissoko’s power and brute force and Winks’ agility and ball-moving ability, complement each other poetically.

While the pair were by no means utterly dominant, they did lead Tottenham to 65 percent overall possession. Dominating possession rarely translates into assured victory, but it is an indicator of control, which, after the interval, Tottenham had. Those disproportionate possession numbers, of course, are also due to Liverpool shutting up shop, holding on for dear life to their slim 1-0 advantage.
