Tottenham limp over Premier League line: Predicted lineup vs Everton
By Gary Pearson
Limping across the Premier League finish line, Tottenham head into their final fixture against Everton with a litany of lineup concerns.
Taking into consideration Tottenham’s current roster situation, it comes as a slight relief knowing that the North Londoners have an eight-goal buffer to work with. Arsenal are three points behind Spurs in the standings and have an eight-goal deficit to erase.
But don’t expect Spurs – even with the slim pickings Mauricio Pochettino has at his disposal – to lose at home to Everton on the final day. Will alone is going to be enough for the result we need to secure a top four position on points, not goal difference.
With that said, let’s dig into the dire roster situation that currently plagues Pochettino and his troop of walking wounded.
Defence:
Juan Foyth starts serving his three-match ban and Jan Vertonghen is out with an ankle injury. Danny Rose’s hamstring is being assessed after he put forth a monstrous effort marauding down the byline in Amsterdam, while Davinson Sánchez continues his rehabilitation.
That leaves Ben Davies, Toby Alderweireld, Serge Aurier and, potentially, Eric Dier. The gaffer will probably line up with a back four, utilizing Alderweireld and Dier in central positions, flanked by Serge Aurier and Ben Davies. But you never know, Kyle Walker-Peters might also get the nod, and a sneaky start to end the campaign.
Midfield & Forwards:
Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama are both out for tomorrow’s match. Winks is in a race against time to gain fitness for the Champions League final on June 1. Oliver Skipp is healthy and might see some action, probably with some second half minutes.
Moussa Sissoko should start, while Heung-Min Son is out of contention as he is serving a three-match ban.
Harry Kane, like the other Harry, has a three-week countdown to gain fitness for grandest of finals and Fernando Llorente is almost guaranteed to take his rightful place up front. I’d be surprised if Erik Lamela doesn’t get the starting nod, and Wednesday’s hero in Amsterdam, Lucas Moura, will start, entering the scene to a rapturous backing from the Tottenham faithful.
Look for Spurs to secure at least a draw in Sunday’s finale, which will leave us – if Arsenal beats Burnley – one point ahead of our hated rivals when the dust settles on the 2018-19 season.
