Other Tottenham Takeaways

While Fernando Llorente never got his goal, on six shots, he was created with an assist on the Wanyama’s opening goal. Whether or not he touched it, his presence is what created the opportunity. Llorente’s late replacement, Heung-Min Son, officially only played 3 minutes and had only two passes on the night, completing both with one an assist.

Speaking of assists, Christian Eriksen got his twelfth of the season when he assisted on Moura’s second goal. It was Eriksen’s 60th for Spurs in League, the most of anyone in League since he joined the squad.

Juan Foyth did have two minutes of madness on the night and was the one beaten for the header Mourie missed. That said, overall, he was solid as a rock in possession, completely 89% of his team-high 114 passes and was involved in the build-up on 2 of the 4 goals. It was good to see a strong outing from the young Argentinian after not playing for some time.

It was a special Day for Lucas Moura, who brought his son Miguel down from the stands after the match as his son drew loud roars with his every touch from the crowd. It was clearly a special moment for Moura and his family. He also displayed some outstanding gymnastics with a round-off back handspring following his second goal.

Any concern about a difficult adjustment to the new stadium is already gone. Tottenham is now 2-0 in League and 3-0 in all competitions at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, outscoring opponents 7-0.  This match saw the first two goals on the tiered-end of the stadium, with the previous 3 and 5 of 7 overall being scored in front of the giant grandstand. Do we have a name for this end yet?

From here Tottenham go to Manchester for the second-leg of the UCL Quarter-final match on Wednesday and then face City again on Saturday back in the Premier League with another lunch-time match-up. Huddersfield host Watford later that same day.
