Many of Spurs’ early points that were dropped were down to the fact that the squad was far too thin to sustain the amount of World Cup players that Tottenham have.  Now, they have somehow managed to remain within less than five points of first position and yet those early dropped points are what are holding the team back.

Through some miracle of man management Pochettino has managed to steer a ship who’s best uninsured striker is Heung Min-Son playing out of position or in tandem with Fernando Llorente against the riches of Manchester City and Liverpool.   If Spurs hadn’t dropped the points they needlessly did at the beginning of the season then there’s no reason to believe that they could very possibly be in first at this very moment.

That is then why this becomes difficult.  If Manchester United had been managed into this position in January and Pochettino said to the board “If we spend 100 million we will win the league this year” would they even question writing the check? No, in fact they’d probably give him 150 just to make sure he was well armed for the war ahead.

Instead at Spurs Pochettino essentially drags the team through the blood soaked mud with tactical ingenuity and leadership only to be told that rather than a gun he’ll be given a sling shot and some rocks because the funds were misappropriated a year ago.  Then yet he still somehow manages to win the day and take the field and he gets nothing for it.

Would that happen at Madrid? No. In fact they’d be discussing whether or not he should be given Eden Hazard, Neymar, or Kylian Mbappe or even all three if it meant he could win.  He would be given everything his heart desired and asked only to win as opposed to save the club money, also promote youth, sell players to make extra cash and also try and succeed in the worlds most competitive division.

Even promoted sides spent more than Spurs in recent years and it’s unfair.

Pochettino deserves more help.  He’s too good of a manager and Spurs must understand that they’re ruining their relationship with him by not giving him the support to fulfill his ambitions or the clubs.

Tottenham should promise Pochettino 200 million and the chance at a proper title challenge next season.  They should promise to pay players the sort of wages their competitors do and find a way to offset the expense over the five year period in which FFP matters.  There’s blood in the water and a chance at chasing history and yet somehow Spurs are refusing to let perhaps the best solider in the land fight?

It’s unfair and ridiculous. Pochettino deserves better.
