Spurs Midfield

Harry Winks – 7

Harry Winks was extremely active on Saturday and played the most passes of anyone on the pitch by a rather wide margin with 111 total passes completing 99 for an 89% clip. Solid day at the office for any midfielder. Speaking of wide, however, Winks was more sideways that forward against Newcastle playing 88 of his 111 passes to the right or left. Harry did have a couple of dribble, driving runs, but then didn’t do anything in the final 1/3. Overall Winks did his job and was available, and while he could do more offensively, in many ways, today that wasn’t his job. Happy Birthday Harry!

Moussa Sissoko – 7.5

Speaking of jobs, Moussa Sissoko’s is really the most flexible on the team. Often the first to fall back and cover for the wing backs roaming up-field, Sissoko defended strong on Saturday as he has all year. Further, he continues to grow in confidence on the ball and although not translating in the final third, Sissoko is making the loss of Mousa Dembele quite palatable for Spurs.

Christian Eriksen – 7

Christian Eriksen wasn’t quite at the top of his game against Newcastle, but he was still solid for Spurs in the middle. Always active in the attacking half of the pitch, with three shots and two on goal, Eriksen was unlucky not to score on Saturday. A deft flick off a deflected corner was inches short of going fully over the line but was cleared off. It this were American football, it would have been a touchdown, but alas football has the whole ball over the whole line rule. Eriksen had a couple of poor free kicks that failed to beat the wall, which needs to improve. Overall a solid, but unspectacular game.
