Wolverhamton loss shows exactly what Tottenham lack
Tottenham’s mentality let them down in their second half performance that could very well have cost them the title on Saturday.
Tottenham need title winning confidence and experience if they’re going to win the league. In the match against Wolves they were terrible in the second half of a match that they should easily have walked away with a result in. Many people will shake their heads at this and others will simply groan but a 1-0 shut up shop victory is a necessary tool in winning a title.
The most professional title winners in Europe understand that. Juventus set a good example of that every single week and they along with Real Madrid are one of the most decorated sides in recent times. When they have to they understand that winning the game is what matters most and they instinctively know that it is time to close the doors and finish out the match.
It isn’t the most romantic notion in the world but a certain level of pragmatism is necessary for these sort of things. Tottenham should have won this game, they should have built a buffer between themselves and Manchester City and kept the pressure on Liverpool. Instead they displayed one of the most immature and childish second half performances that will be put out in the Premier League this season.
It’s true that Tottenham looked sluggish and tired. They have obviously been feeling the weight of their recent string of victories and exactly what it cost to make that happen. That said no league victory has ever come through five good games. You must play 38 of them and though some results will turn out poorly if you put in proper professional performances you’ll get there in the end.

Tottenham’s supporters showed up in good voice on Saturday and created the sort of environment that has come to be expected from them. They deserved a better performance on the day. One can only hope that Poch will turn this around and that it is yet another one off and final backwards step for Tottenham this season.
Tottenham must be more professional moving forward and if necessary they should add some experience in the January window.
