Midfielders

Moussa Sissoko – 7

As good as Moussa Sissoko has been for the last month, we didn’t get to see a lot of it against Bournemouth. Yes, Sissoko had his moments including a nice move in the first half where he stole the ball and then sprang up field on the dribble. Sissoko got the ball up to Kane, who switched to KWP, and then KWP dropped the ball off to Eriksen for Spurs’ first goal. Beyond a few instances like this one, Sissoko wasn’t as visible on Wednesday as he has been, but that is because he just wasn’t needed as much in support of the backs. It was a solid game and his form continues to show why Spurs may be comfortable seeing Mousa Dembele walk out the door.

Harry Winks – 7

Sissoko’s partner in the double pivot was Harry Winks. Winks has been tidy with the ball in recent weeks but hasn’t added much to the attack. Winks was a bit more aggressive against the Cherries, with a few balls that found their way forward. For a player with a great through ball, I’d like to see more of it from Winks. That said, much like Sissoko, Winks wasn’t hugely needed in the game as Tottenham controlled throughout and the Cherries’ chances were not great.

Lucas Moura – 7

Lucas Moura capped off a superb Spurs performance, scoring on KWP’s third assist of the day. His finish was simple and well taken, putting Moura on the scoresheet. Lucas did plenty of running on the day, but where he really caught my eye was with his defensive work. Sissoko and Winks you expect to drop back and defend, but I saw some of that from Moura too, which led to some nice countering opportunities. When Moura and Eriksen can win a few balls in the middle of the pitch, it makes life easier in the back and the front for Spurs.

Christian Eriksen – 7.5

Eriksen had the opening goal, an assist on Kane’s goal, and played hard across the park all day. Like Moura, Eriksen dropped back defensively and stuck his nose in on a couple occasions to win the ball. Eriksen’s distribution was solid and he created a couple chances. My only disappointment with Eriksen is that he didn’t get to take any of the free kick opportunities Spurs had on the day. This is a bit disturbing to me as I don’t see Kane as the free kick specialist Eriksen is.

Oliver Skipp – 7

Skipp only had about 20 minutes on the pitch, but again looks for the ball. His desire to have the ball under pressure is a very positive sign for Spurs moving forward. It seemed he and Winks were going to click on a move, but Winks lost the ball in possession.
