Midfielders

Moussa Sissoko – 7

The central defensive midfielder’s performance was bittersweet. The bitter is that he had 3 good opportunities to take a shot and didn’t take any of them. If Son was in his position during those opportunities it could have ended 3-0 to Spurs. He also gave away the ball a few times and was offside when almost his whole team was in Burnley’s third. There was plenty of sweet, though. This was especially seen in his mentoring role for Oliver Skipp. Sissoko played with as much energy as ever and was never beat. Alderweireld was the general of the backline, Sissoko was the general of the midfield. No Burnley forward pass was safe around him, let alone any Burnley player.

Oliver Skipp – 7

With Sissoko helping out, Skipp could ease into his first Premier League start. Early on, he gave the ball away a couple of times but that is just about all the bad you could say about him. He played with maturity. Skipp was cool-headed in passing forward to the likes of Lamela and passing in the backline to Alderweireld and Trippier. He was always ready for a Burnley cross or a threatening pass. He and Sissoko actually made a formidable team.

Dele Alli – 8

Alli played like he knew exactly how the match was going to end. He was quiet for most of the 90 minutes and waited until extra time to come alive. Alli usually found himself at the top of the box and could have gotten a couple of assists if his teammates finished better. He was a great facilitator. This was plainly seen as he controlled a booming pass from Trippier. Alli cooly tipped it to Kane, who assisted Eriksen.

Christian Eriksen – 9

Even though he come on in the 65th, Eriksen’s contribution could not be overstated. To put it simply, he gave Tottenham 2 points which could be crucial in the title race. Soon after he came on, he made his presence felt. Eriksen made accurate passes to several Spurs including Sissoko and Rose and these alone could have led to goals. His goal showed his strong connection with Harry Kane as the Dane’s run along the left didn’t go unnoticed. Eriksen’s great teamwork was on full display.
