Having made sporadic bench appearances to go along with a few minutes in the EFL Cup, Tottenham’s next touted youngster made his PL debut in the win over Southampton.

Skipp, who made his cup debut back in October, finally got his first taste of England’s top flight on Wednesday. The midfielder came on to help close the game with Spurs looking shaky. He only played three minutes, but still managed to look lively. Playing a disguised pass he managed to find Danny Rose for a great chance late on in the game.

The Englishman offers the kind of play that Spurs need in their midfield. He can be a great compliment to players like Harry Winks who like to pass or stronger types like Moussa Dembele. Skipp is a tidy player who is always waiting to pick the right pass. However, he can also press and tackle, key parts of Tottenham’s gameplay. He also brings some pace to the midfield as he likes to drive the ball around to find an outlet.

The midfielder is also incredible skillful on the ball. He possesses great control when he takes a touch and can dribble his way through traffic much like Erik Lamela or Lucas.

For many Spurs fans, Skipp became known during the preseason tour of the U.S. Like in the past Pochettino gave some youngsters a runout, including Skipp. Against AC Milan he started the match and was able to show off a little bit of his talent.

Pochettino himself has said that he has wanted to involve the Englishman for the past few months put could not get him into the plans. Now, after being on the bench against Barcelona as well as debuting, Skipp should see it as a kickstart to more playing time.

This will be hard to come by with the Top 4 race so strong this season. Spurs’ midfield however is a battle right now between who can partner each other. If Skipp can start getting more minutes, a full debut may be right around the corner.

For now, cup games and garbage time may be the only time Oliver Skipp will see the pitch for Spurs. Making the most of those limited minutes is what he has to do to break through into the team.
