What I learned from Tottenham Win at Huddersfield Town
By Aaron Coe
Where is the Killer Instinct?
Although Spurs managed out the 2-0 victory well, they were a bit lucky with the crossbar not to concede, as Gazzaniga was beaten. Up 2-0 at the half, and with most of the possession for the first 20-25 minutes of the second half Spurs should have put Huddersfield to bed.
The crowd was ultra-intense and loud, and their team was 2-0 down for darn near an hour. I can only imagine what the crowd would have been like had Huddersfield pulled one back. I grew up learning and believing a 2-goal lead is the most dangerous in football, one mistake and suddenly it is game on in a big way.
Getting that third goal can make all the difference, with the crowd and the opposition. Spurs need to get that killer instinct back if they want to really compete for the Premier League crown.
What’s Next for Spurs
Tottenham have now won two of the three-straight must win games to stay in the league race in September. Sure, it would have been nice to pull a point or even a win in Anfield against Liverpool, but it was the trio of Brighton, Huddersfield, and Cardiff City that Tottenham had/has to beat to stay in the race.
With Liverpool dropping points for the first time this season today, Spurs are now fourth, on goal difference over Arsenal, only 4 points back of Manchester City, who sit back atop the Premier League table.
A good showing on Wednesday, stealing a point, maybe even three against a dare I say suddenly struggling, or sluggish maybe is the better word, Barcelona side would be nice. More importantly, another victory next Saturday at Wembley against Cardiff will keep Spurs in the title race heading into another exciting and festive international break.
Oh, did I mention Liverpool play Manchester City next weekend before the break, another Liverpool tie and 2 points back of first at the break sure sounds good to me and with a win no more than 4 points. The early blip hopefully is behind Spurs and now they can begin to hit their stride.
