Going into the match against Brighton and Hove Albion Tottenham supporters could be forgiven for having been slightly uneasy due to the team’s recent form.

Tottenham have not played well recently.  They’ve looked slow and weak.  The lack of Dele Alli’s creativity and pure confidence has appeared to hit the side a lot harder than many would have thought.  They’ve also lacked the leadership and goals of Harry Kane while he has dealt with his own struggles on the pitch.  That then coupled with Hugo Lloris’ situation and injury and the stadium troubles has led to a very difficult patch of the season for the Lillywhites.

The good news though, is that they handled it with character on Saturday.

Tottenham weren’t good.  They weren’t entertaining.  They didn’t play attractive football.  But what they did do is the most important thing.  They won the match.  How they won it says the most about how this Tottenham side are maturing together. The best teams know that they can’t play beautifully in every match and that the ball won’t bounce right in every one either.  There’s going to be terrible days in which you need to make it work somehow and that is what they’ve gone out and done.

Harry Kane has been out of form but his scoring of a perfect penalty is a good sign.  Lucas Moura was again one of the best players on the park and his confidence is surely sky high at the moment.  With Son working his way back into the team and Dele Alli on his way back to fitness as well, he had a good cameo, Tottenham are picking up steam at a perfect moment.

Tottenham made good on their talent’s promise by winning away at Brighton on Saturday and that’s all that can be asked of them.  The truth is this side has too much talent and too much promise to not have higher expectations for themselves.  Recently the play has been beyond unacceptable and their making strides in the right direction shows that they know that too.

If they can continue building upwards from this it will be a good thing for everyone involved.
