Recently the calls for Harry Kane to be rested seem to have risen like tide waters around Tottenham Hotspur.  Mauricio Pochettino knows how to deal with these better than anyone, however.

As the calls for Harry Kane to be rested more seem to build up and the pressure surrounding the issue escalates for Mauricio Pochettino the Argentine seems to handle the claims with a sense of calm authority.  Much in the way that Sir Alex Ferguson, to whom the Argentinian manager is often compared, used to wave away matters in the press and now social media spheres Pochettino appears to be as perfectly mentally suited to the task as the Scottish coaching giant. Perhaps it is his obvious intelligence or confidence in his coaching or perhaps his calm belief in both but either way Pochettino is correct in suggesting that he will not listen to anyone on how to manage the rest of his own star players.

For what it’s worth the calls to rest Harry Kane are both equal parts absurd and inane.  He is an adult man and one of the best professionals in football.  He has adopted many of the modern habits that separate the footballers from football players.  Harry Kane bought an apartment closer to the training ground so he could both train earlier and later.  He has also hired a personal chef to look after his diet and as was seen with his weight for England he has so much muscle that his body is literally heavier than it would be if he were more out of shape (muscle weighs more than fat if you didn’t know that little biological tidbit).

To rest Harry Kane would be the sort of overthinking and soft behavior that has often cost Tottenham wins and titles in the past.  Without Harry Kane, Tottenham are an average team.  He is without a doubt the beginning, middle and end of any title push that Tottenham will make.  King Harry is the centerpiece in the museum, the prize on show and the dream of Spurs supporters everywhere all rolled into one.

Pochettino suggested that he knows Kane better than anyone in some of his recent comments and was correct.  It is Pochettino who made Kane into the modern day Batistuta that he is.  It is Pochettino who spends nearly every day with the Englishman and absolutely everyday with at least a passing thought about him.

Resting Kane would be absurd.  He can either play the 50 or so matches that top-level players are expected to play or he can’t.  If he can’t then he’s not the player we all thought he was.  For what it’s worth I believe that he can and must start every single one of those matches such is his influence.  Modern sports sciences can fix whatever else ails him.  If he needs to use a cryo chamber so be it.  Some sort of California brand of massaging or herbal therapy (I am not suggesting anything illegal by the way) then he should do it.

Tottenham are very much in the Harry Kane business and they know that.  They are in the business of seeing that he can play in every match possible.  Not in the business of keeping him out of them.
