Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with Valencia over 53 million pound rated midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia.

Though the midfielder only recently joined Valencia after officially making his loan move to Valencia permanent it is possible he could be on the move once again.  The former Sevilla and Inter Milan midfielder is now rumored to be the subject of a massive move to Tottenham Hotspur.

With Spurs not having made a single move so far this summer they are beginning to get desperate and a move for Kondogbia would represent decent business on the behalf of the London club.  Of all the things that Tottenham have a defensive midfielder who can still contribute moving forward while not sacrificing defensive responsibility is not one of them.  Though he only had one truly good season in La Liga this represents a gamble that is not a bad idea for Tottenham to make.

Kondogbia showed last season in La Liga that not only is he a consistent player but he is one who shows up for the big occasions.  He was phenomenal in matches against both Barcelona and Real Madrid and that is something that Tottenham should be looking at with a lot of positivity.

More from Hotspur HQ

He’s a big player who is good in the air and also good with his feet and a very intelligent sense of positioning.  He is careful on the ball and doesn’t give up possession in bad areas.  He also offers something slightly different to the Tottenham midfield that is having trouble finding a truly strong set of partners for the remarkable Christian Eriksen.

Eric Dier is too conservative at times and though a good passer and smart player most of the time has developed something of a habit for not pulling it all together in the biggest of moments. Moussa Dembele is more of a destroyer than an architect and Tottenham need more than that.

There are no two ways about it.  Tottenham are title contenders now but in order to do so, they need to continue the evolution that has picked up speed with the Levy and Pochettino partnership.  Kondogbia represents a move in that direction.  His success in La Liga is a good sign considering that the coach he played under in Marcelino is very similar to Pochettino.  If he can hit the ground running it in London it will free up Pochettino to play more attacking players and move forward against the rising tide of Manchester City.

Now it is time to see if Tottenham and Levy can close the deal.
