Special mention

Goal of the season was always going to be a two-horse race. While Son Heung-Min’s scorcher against West Ham was a wonder strike out of the top drawer, his 30-yard missile still wasn’t enough to breach the top two. Which shows precisely how extraordinary Victor Wanyama and Christian Eriksen’s strikes were.

Runner up

Wanyama’s screamer against Liverpool and Eriksen’s odds-defying nose-diving effort versus Chelsea are sightings as rare as coming across a Spirit Bear in Canada. Not known for his striking ability, Wanyama’s goal against Liverpool will probably go down as the best – and most important – he’ll ever score.

Yet still it wasn’t good enough to take best goal honours, showing just how otherworldly Eriksen’s strike was.

The winner

Some say Wilfredo Caballero should have done better on the Dane’s long-range, heat-seeking missile, but most think otherwise. This strike was awarded Premier League Goal of the Month for April, and is deserving of goal of the season, too.

Not only did Eriksen’s 26-yard strike dip like a fighter jet avoiding incoming fire, it levelled an affair that Spurs simply had to win. It was the match that all but secured Spurs’ top four spot. I can’t rave enough about the strike. As you’ll notice, the ball’s initial trajectory had it on course to fly over the bar, until it miraculously dropped like a lead balloon.
