CB: Jan Vertonghen
To partner the great Ledley King at centre back we needed another great man to share the responsibilities of defending our greatest Premier League XI goal.

Vertonghen wears his heart on his sleeve in every game for Spurs and is a real warrior in the modern era of football, and this is enough to warrant him a place in the starting XI.

Spare a thought for Michael Dawson who came agonisingly close to making it into the team, however, it’s Vertoghen’s footballing prowess that put him in another league.

Some might argue that Sol Campbell deserved a place in the XI, but after his move to Arsenal in 2001 he all but removed himself from even being considered for the role; sorry Sol but Jans the man for this one.
