4. Attacking versatility

Whether personnel or playing style is placed under the spotlight for examination, Tottenham’s ability to attack with versatility provides a decisive advantage that few teams can efficiently combat.

Spurs, against élite opposition in the Champions League, are more prone to attacking on the counter, which they do with pace, precision and an enterprising swagger. Content to absorb pressure like peat absorbs water, Tottenham can bide their time and, thanks to the devastating nature of their counter attack, pounce in the blink of an eye.

Tottenham are also comfortable in bossing possession. Just look at yesterday’s north London derby as evidence of that.

In terms of personnel, Harry Kane, Son, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen pull the offensive strings like a philharmonic orchestra, harmoniously in unison. If, for some inexplicable reason, Tottenham’s fantastic four aren’t performing to their ability, Pochettino can shake things up by calling on Lamela or Lucas Moura. Not a bad contingency plan.
