Tottenham set to offer Kieran Trippier new five-year deal
By Gary Pearson
Spurs, according to the Telegraph, are set to offer Kieran Trippier a new five-year deal, ensuring the club has a solid contingency plan in place if Kyle Walker leaves for pastures anew.
The Kyle Walker situation has been discussed, argued, evaluated and pondered ad nauseam by media outlets across the globe.
Will he stay or will he go? More than likely, it’s the latter of the two options.
But Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy aren’t going to stand idly by to find out, as they’re preparing to offer right back Kieran Trippier a new five-year contract. The question is whether Spurs would have offered Trippier the same deal if the Walker situation was more stable.

One can argue the unknown to he or she is blue in the face, but two things are certain. Trippier deserves this deal and Tottenham must secure a reliable, competent right back, even if he isn’t Spurs first choice.
Trippier was signed for a paltry £3.5 million from Burnley in 2015, another shrewd bit of business Levy can be proud of.
The 26-year-old right back still has three years left on his current deal, but the Bury native wants to remain at Spurs until he’s 31. And with the extension comes the obligatory salary rise and more lucrative incentive package.
Trippier, depending on what happens with Walker, will more than likely commandeer a spot in Spurs starting 11 for the 2017-18 campaign, a role he’s worked tirelessly to achieve. The milestone year tasted even sweeter when the tattoo-laden right back made his full international début in England’s 3-2 loss to France earlier in June.
Expect the contract extension to be signed and delivered before Tottenham permit Walker to leave north London.

Trippier, when the deal is signed, will join Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen, Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier and Christian Eriksen in the long list of Spurs players who agreed new contracts in the last year.
Negotiations are underway with Belgium international Toby Alderweireld, too.
New contracts won’t necessarily stop teams from attempting to poach our best players, but they do provide a statement of intent, that Spurs’ core are happy plying their trade in the white side of north London and looking forward to achieving a collective goal.
