Tottenham 3 – 2 West Ham

Over the last few seasons, Spurs have suffered just as much from small-to-middling teams as they have the league’s best teams. The trick last season and this season was to make sure you take those matches as seriously as you take matches against City or Chelsea.

West Ham were determined to stop Spurs’ momentum in that regard however. Pochettino’s men conceded the lead twice, first in the 23rd minute thanks to Michail Antonio and then — after Harry Winks scored his first ever Tottenham goal just after half-time — from a Manuel Lanzini penalty in the 67th minute.

The 88th minute came and it seemed that Tottenham’s unbeaten streak — one that had lasted over three months at this point — might come to an end. And then Kane stepped up.

He tied the game up in the 89th thanks to an assist from Kieran Trippier then, as Spurs kept the pressure up on West Ham’s defense, earned a penalty that he subsequently dispatched two minutes later.

Unlike Spurs teams of old, they saw the odds against them and refused to wilt. Suffice it to say that Spurs would not have to make such a comeback again this season.
