Mauricio Pochettino’s Press Conference: Sunderland vs Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino talks about Sunderland
Another game, another important fixture to collect a maximum of three points for Mauricio Pochettino.
Regardless of the opponent, the Argentine manager views each Premier League match the same way. That Tottenham must continue to improve their position in the table.
“For me, every game in the Premier League is important.” Pochettino began.
“We are in a position where it’s important for us to get the three points. It’s true that it will be a tough game because Sunderland need the points too and it’s always tough to play in the Premier League but our idea and our objective is to try to get the three points for us to be close to being on top [of the table], to keep our position and maybe improve it so it’s important to win the three points.”
Against the worst team in England’s top flight division and third-worst defense this term, Spurs will be heavy favorites to walk away with three points on Tuesday but as usual, Pochettino didn’t budge from his idea that no team can be taken so easily.
“I think the pressure is the same. It’s up to you how you feel in football.”
“We need to feel the same – that the three points are important for them, but they are very important for us too.”
“We need to be aware of the pressure and it’s a game that we need to win, we need to get the three points because at the end of the season we need to fight for big things and it will bring us the possibility to keep our position, maybe improve it and be close to the top of the table and for that it’s a very important game.”

When Pochettino mentioned that every game is important to pick up three points, he makes a very great point. Especially when glossing over Spurs’ schedule from now until the end of the season.
Should Tottenham win they will leapfrog over Arsenal for second place in the league table with 49 points and cut Chelsea’s lead to six.
Spurs’ schedule favors them as they will be matched up against plenty of mid-table teams with a few top-six sides sprinkled in here and there (Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United).
This is the best opportunity to more than make up all the points that were dropped from October through November and it continues tomorrow.
