We here at HotspurHQ don’t stray too often from the news and analysis portions of a fan site, but sometimes there’s just no denying the electricity of anxiously waiting for a fresh season to kick off.

With a nearly full team traveling to Oslo and a pretty worthy opponent awaiting them there, Friday’s match just feels like the beginning of the season. Here’s Pochettino’s team as it’s meant to be, just a week out from the beginning of perhaps one of the most eagerly anticipated seasons in the club’s history. The excitement is palpable.

None of which should be interpreted as a critique of what came before this pre-season. Seeing Tottenham’s bench players and youth academy graduates come together to put in a pair of convincing if ultimately losing performances in Australia last week was great stuff.

It gave most of us first glimpses as big prospects like Cameron Carter-Vickers and Dominic Ball while also providing pseudo-debuts for Wanyama and Janssen. We got to see what might be remembered as the first glimpses of Harry Winks’ quality. Lamela set the pace for what could be another great season. In all it was a much welcomed look at what Tottenham have waiting in the wings.

None of that compares to the elation of seeing Kane, Alli, Eriksen, Dier, Alderweireld and Lloris together again after these long months. Their walk onto the pitch Friday will, for many Tottenham fans, mark the beginning of what could be another wonderful season.
