Kevin Wimmer Signs New Tottenham Contract
Tottenham have signed Kevin Wimmer to a new deal following a successful debut season after arriving from 1. FC Köln last summer.
Earlier today, Kevin Wimmer who was Mauricio Pochettino’s first summer acquisition a year ago to fix his team’s defense, signed a five-year contract extension that will see the 23-year-old stay with Tottenham until 2021.

At just £4.3 million, Wimmer who was virtually unknown, made his presence felt following Jan Vertonghen’s knee injury by making 10 appearances in the Premier League, with nine straight starts.
In total, the Austrian international made 21 appearances in all competitions and showed quite enough for Spurs to lock up the central defender permanently and give Mauricio Pochettino a very solid third-choice center-back who can hold his own as a starter.
While he has only been capped four teams by the Austria national team, the displays Wimmer showed this past season were enough to see him represent his country in the European Championship last month. Where he would make an appearance against the eventual champions-Portugal.
Upon signing his new deal, Kevin Wimmer sat down with Spurs TV to discuss his thoughts on staying with the north London club as well as who he first contacted once everything was finalized.
"“I’m delighted that I was able to sign a new contract to stay five more years with the club,” Wimmer said.“It’s a big pleasure for me, it makes me very happy and it’s a dream come true that I can stay so long with such a big club.”More from Hotspur HQStorybook ending after difficult period for Tottenahm’s RicharlisonTottenham comeback showcased invaluable intangible Ange has cultivatedTottenham player ratings in 2-1 comeback win over Sheffield UnitedTottenham projected starting 11 for Sheffield UnitedTottenham’s Richarlison says he’s going to seek psychological help“I called my mum and dad [to tell them] and of course they are also very happy.”“It’s special for them because they know we always work hard, we train every day and the season is very long.”“They are delighted and very happy for me that I could sign a new contract and they are also very proud.”"
As for how he has settled into the team since arriving last summer from the Bundesliga, Kevin Wimmer adapted very quickly. A part of that was due to his teammates being very welcoming and another reason was just time.
In two or three months, Wimmer was acclimated to his new environment.
"“People say we all have good mentalities here at the club – the people are very nice and we are like a big family,” Wimmer continued.“Everybody likes each other and I was welcomed very well by everyone when I joined last season so it’s a big pleasure for me to play for a big club like this.”“The first year here was very good for me, I could learn a lot,” the Austrian defender added.“The first few months were a little bit difficult because London is such a big city and you have to get to know everything, but after two or three months everything was easier.”“When I arrived in London and at the training ground for the first time I was a little bit nervous – it’s a big club with big players and of course you don’t know anybody when you come to a new place but it was a very special feeling from the beginning, everybody was very friendly.”“Honestly I think London is one of the best cities to live in and here at the club everything is good. That’s the reason why I wanted to stay, because everything is feeling the right way.”"
