AZ Alkmaar Have Received Two Offers, One from Tottenham
Vincent Janssen is one of Tottenham’s priorities to sign this summer but standing in Spurs’ way is AZ Alkmaar’s sporting director Max Huiberts.
A couple of days ago, Paris Saint-Germain became the latest club to try and sign Vincent Janssen, but their apparent bid of €15 million was never officially submitted to AZ Alkmaaar.
The Eredivisie side have only received two offers for Janssen: Tottenham and Wolfsburg. Therefore, it’s looking more likely that Spurs have a chance to sign the 22-year-old if they’re able to pay the Dutch side’s asking price of €20 million. Something they seem reluctant to do at the moment.

Vincent Janssen’s value seems to have continuously grown since word got out that Tottenham were interested in the Dutch international earlier this month. It was first reported by the Mirror on June 7th that terms of a £12 million (€14 million) deal were agreed upon.
That didn’t come to fruition, though Janssen’s value did rise to £16.5 million (€20 million) instead with AZ Alkmaar preparing to cash in on the striker who led the Eredivisie with 27 goals in 34 appearances. Or at least scare clubs away.
Tottenham of course paid less than what AZ had wanted by offering only €14 million and spreading their payment out into a three-year installment before being turned down. PSG didn’t line up a bid, but were considering €15 million as mentioned above. Wolfsburg’s offer which wasn’t mentioned, appears to have been rejected too.
So this begs the question, is Janssen even on the market?
From Voetbal International, AZ Alkmaar’s sporting director Max Huiberts, makes it sound like Vincent Janssen isn’t actually up for sale. Huiberts seems against the idea that the media is putting out arbitrary numbers that fits certain club’s transfer policies.
For example, because Tottenham likes to get value deals, it’s no surprise that the Mirror had Spurs paying a bargain price of £12 million because it benefits them. But maybe not so much for AZ.

"“I have read everything that has made the rounds regarding different values.”“You could say that they’re official bids, but I think it’s all nonsense. I am against any newspaper who are putting prices out there.”“In fact, I’m against any club who has called with an offer to sign Vincent.”More from Hotspur HQStorybook ending after difficult period for Tottenahm’s RicharlisonTottenham comeback showcased invaluable intangible Ange has cultivatedTottenham player ratings in 2-1 comeback win over Sheffield UnitedTottenham projected starting 11 for Sheffield UnitedTottenham’s Richarlison says he’s going to seek psychological help“We have rejected all offers for Vincent Janssen.”“There is no change regarding Janssen’s situation at this moment. What all of this sounds like, is a transfer rumor that has gone awry.
Because transfer windows in the summer (and winter) are generally called “silly season” by fans with the amount of news that comes out on a daily basis. It’s not surprising that teams are seeing their players being linked with moves away from their clubs for no apparent reason.
Vincent Janssen’s situation mirrors that of Eric Dier’s, in that Max Huiberts has no interest in selling his striker — if what he says is all true — despite Mauricio Pochettino attending a Republic of Ireland and Netherlands friendly game a while back and taking notice of Janssen.
For Tottenham, Dier is being linked to Bayern Munich. Carlo Ancelotti and his transfer committee are interested in Spurs’ defensive midfielder based on what he has done during this summer’s European Championship and most likely what he did last season.
Of course, Spurs have no intention of selling Eric Dier who has recently signed a five-year contract extension recently. Perhaps what the Mirror wrote earlier this month was nothing but fluff and that while Mauricio Pochettino has indeed shown interest and needs a striker to be Harry Kane’s backup, the price of £12 million (€14 million) seemed too good to be true.

In fact, when AZ rejected Tottenham’s offer and slapped a €20 million (£16.5 million) value on the 22-year-old striker, it could be seen as the Eredivisie club not actually wanting to part ways with their most prized asset contrary to what has been written recently.
Whatever happens, it’s apparent that Tottenham needs a striker and signing one seems like it’s a toss up between overpaying for Michy Batshuayi or paying around £16 million for Antonio Sanabria. Because at this rate, Vincent Janssen doesn’t seem like he’ll be sold with how Max Huiberts disliked all of these offers that have popped up out of nowhere in his eyes.
