Saido Berahino may no longer be a target for Tottenham but his current price at the moment should hopefully rekindle their interest once again.

Tottenham’s interest in Saido Berahino has dropped considerably when West Brom would reject four consecutive bids last summer for a then-21-year-old striker coming off of a successful campaign two years ago with 20 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions.

The main reason why Berahino is no longer on Spurs’ radar came down to Mauricio Pochettino looking at other center-forwards: Michy Batshuayi, Vincent Janssen and Antonio Sanabria.

With Tottenham chasing three strikers, it only makes sense that Berahino was no longer a priority to sign as a backup for Harry Kane when they couldn’t agree on a deal with Baggies’ chairman Jeremy Peace.

And now that a year has passed since both sides have talked, with a year left on his contract, Saido Berahino’s value has plummeted as the English striker is going for £16 million.

It’s a far cry from Spurs’ final offer which was £23 million while Newcastle sent £21 million last January. Both were significant offers back then even though they were lower than Peace’s asking price of £25 million.

Now that Berahino is no longer a hot commodity, West Brom will be selling at a loss.

A part of Berahino’s drop in form was because of his attitude to not play for West Brom after having his personal transfer request rejected. Another reason was Tony Pulis being adamant on not starting a player who was mentally and physically unfit to play which makes sense.

Following a down year in which the 22-year-old struggled to find the back of the net last term, scoring seven goals in 35 appearances in all competitions, interest is starting to pick up once again.

According to the Mirror, both Crystal Palace and Stoke City are the latest two clubs to be linked with the Baggies’ striker who West Brom must sell in order to recoup some money or lose him for free next summer when his contract expires.

Although Stoke have prepared a bid of £16 million West Brom won’t sell Saido Berahino just yet until they find a replacement. And since Tony Pulis’ inquiry for Liverpool’s Jordan Ibe was declined, this will take a while.

Until Pulis and Jeremy Peace are able to find another striker to replace Berahino, Stoke City and Crystal Palace can’t make a move. And while Tottenham have moved on, maybe they can rekindle their interest once again even if they can’t submit a bid either.

With both Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino targeting players who are valued fairly — which Saido Berahino is at the moment following last season — Spurs could swoop in if they choose to do so. Especially if they’re ready to send £16 million to Roma for Antonio Sanabria.

Daniel Levy might not want to deal with Jeremy Peace again, and vice versa, but at this point West Brom would get the money that they want even if it’s not upfront as Tottenham tends to pay in installments.

At the end of the day, it appears that Peace is picky with how Spurs choose to pay. It’s not for everyone, obviously, but that’s how Tottenham tends to do business with certain players who they value, but don’t want to pay a lot upfront and in one go.

Tottenham doesn’t need to sign Saido Berahino, in fact having Vincent Janssen and Antonio Sanabria — if Spurs can sigh both — would be much preferred than Berahino at this moment.

But with a player’s value dropping as much as Berahino’s did, Spurs could at least gauge West Brom’s interest once again and try to negotiate a deal.
