Tottenham Hotspur are just one club out of a few that is currently tracking Hull City left-back, Josh Tymon, with the possibility of trying to work out a transfer if the player is available.

There is exactly no information on Josh Tymon’s Transfermarkt page other than his age, position and his two appearances from this past season. So why is Tottenham interested in the Hull City defender? They’re most likely interested in buying a young prospect with an eye towards the future as usual.

According to ESPN UK, Tottenham are joined by Arsenal, West Ham United and Liverpool who are all interested in the 17-year-old left-back.

The two appearances that Tymon made came during the fourth and fifth rounds of the FA Cup, against Bury and Arsenal respectively.

Because of those two games, it’s come to the point that at 17-years-old, the left-back is already being regarded as one of the best young prospects in England. Even getting a call-up to the Under-17 England national team.

With Tottenham, Arsenal, West Ham and Liverpool all interested in Josh Tymon, Hull City are going to try their best to keep their young defender. But what could stand in their way is if they fail to beat Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship play-off final this Saturday.

Gaining promotion back into the Premier League is on the line for both clubs, but one reason why it’s imperative for the Tigers is the simple fact that if Tymon wants to play in the Premiership, Hull will have a difficult time in keeping him.

At the end of the day, footballers make the decisions and it wouldn’t be in Hull City’s best interest to have a 17-year-old defender who isn’t focused and pouting (see: Saido Berahino).

As for a potential transfer fee that could be acceptable, should Hull be forced to sell Josh Tymon, for starters the £5 million that Tottenham paid to MK Dons will be the standard for any teenager who has potential to become future stars.

It’s more than enough for both sides, as the Premier League clubs don’t have to break the bank for a youth prospect, and the lower league teams get a good amount of money in return.

The only question other than “Why are Tottenham interested in Josh Tymon?” is “Why are Spurs looking at left-back options?”

With Danny Rose and Ben Davies the top two left-backs on Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, Tymon would still be two to three years away from making his debut for Tottenham. Though that shouldn’t be much of a problem.

At the same time, Ben Davies has been inconsistent when he starts. In some games, he’s been impressive offensively and defensively. Other times, he’s lacked in his defensive awareness or is simply beaten by his man.

The game against Newcastle United is one such example and it wasn’t pretty.

For the time being, until the Championship play-off final is finished — whether Hull City earns promotion or not — Josh Tymon is staying put.

It’s speculation at this point whether the 17-year-old defender wants to remain with the Tigers or wants to join a Premier League club.

Obviously one biased option is to join Tottenham because Mauricio Pochettino has shown plenty of faith in youth players with Josh Onomah getting 19 appearances this past season for a 19-year-old. If Tymon joins Spurs, he could see at least a fraction of the 19 games Onomah appeared in.
