Ranking Tottenham’s New Additions

3. Heung-min Son
With the recent news about Pochettino ready to sell Son, the narrative around the South Korean has changed dramatically. At first it centered around a few lackluster performances in between what seemed like some relatively decent ones. Son was purchased from Bayer Leverkusen over the summer, who play a similar system to Tottenham, and was expected to come into the side and acclimate quickly and easily.
At the beginning of the season, he did for the most part, scoring in back to back games against Qarabag FK and Crystal Palace, scoring the winner in the match against the latter. Then he got hurt in the 4-1 victory over Manchester City and didn’t feature again until November in the Europa League. Son would score four more times over the remainder of the season, including a back heel winner at Watford.
From the outside things seemed rosy for Son in north London, but the Son saga will certainly be worth paying attention to in the offseason. From a strictly footballing standpoint, it seems that Son should fit into this squad, however it is not unlike Pochettino to offload players who don’t fit the ethos he is trying to create. And that might be exactly what we’re seeing with Son.
