To recap what Toby Alderweireld has won as individual awards after an excellent debut season with Tottenham in the Premier League and the Europa League, here’s the list below (in order of when it was made public/known of).
Toby Alderweireld’s individual honors won this season:
- PFA Team of the Year
- Supporters Clubs’ Player of the Season
- One Hotspur Members’ Player of the Season
- Facebook Defender of the Year
- Europa League Squad of the Season
The amount of recognition that Alderweireld has received this past season shows how much he has meant to Tottenham and their supporters.
Although the Belgian international is the only representative for Spurs in this year’s Europa League Squad of the Season, Tottenham couldn’t have asked for a better player to represent their Club with pride.
With the 2015-16 season now over, it’s about time to move on to the next year and to see what Toby Alderweireld can bring in his second season with Tottenham.
No doubt, expectations for him will be at an all-time high after his performances both in the Premier League and the Europa League.
And although it will be tough to repeat the feats that he pulled off time and time again to keep opponents from scoring, or perhaps winning just a fraction of the awards he picked up this year, Spurs supporters can be sure that Alderweireld will deliver the goods once again.

Defense is a difficult position to play, especially with how Mauricio Pochettino likes a high-pressing style to win the ball back as soon as possible before quickly going on a counterattack.
But, with Toby Alderweireld’s compatriot in Jan Vertonghen playing alongside him, Eric Dier providing cover in front, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker as the full-backs not to mention Hugo Lloris behind him as one of the world’s best goalkeepers, Alderweireld’s job won’t be as hard.
Tottenham already over exceeded their own expectations, as well as everyone else’s throughout the year.
But one of the more surprising story lines besides challenging for the league title, finishing in the top three, Harry Kane wining the Golden Boot and securing Champions League football, plus certain players having good individual seasons, is the fact that Spurs’ defense was one of the best this past season.

All season long, Tottenham were always number one, defensively speaking, and minus a horrible showing by the entire team overall against Newcastle United, they barely lost to Manchester United as finishing the year with the best defensive record in the Premier League.
Perhaps next season Spurs could win more games, draw less and concede even fewer goals while earning plenty of clean sheets.
And one reason to be optimistic that this could happen is because of Toby Alderweireld and what he has brought to this club in just one season.
