Pochettino Offers Glimpse into Tottenham’s Summer Plans
Tottenham Hotspur have one of the best starting eleven’s in the Premier League. But their bench and a lack of depth hurt them. It will be a priority this summer and something that Mauricio Pochettino will no doubt address.
Mauricio Pochettino already knows that he must bolster his squad in preparation for the new season, especially with the Champions League’s group stage practically secured, no matter what Sunday’s result will be. However, his targets could be anyone at any position.

At the time, the Argentine manager only mentioned that Tottenham had to sign players and that his squad needed to be better prepared mentally next season after dropping 20 points from a winning position.
Well, on top of those two things Pochettino has offered supporters a brief glimpse as to who Tottenham might target once the summer transfer window opens.
Looking at the squad, it’s quite obvious that Spurs boast the youngest team in the Premier League. And while they do have experience and veteran players at important positions, the fact still remains that Pochettino and Tottenham’s transfer committee have carefully selected youth players over their older brethren.
How the 44-year-old described it, is a matter of fit, more than anything else.
“I think today at Tottenham, when you analyse the squad, you need to add not only the football side but the human profile,” Pochettino said (quotes via ESPN UK).
“You have some limitations. But it’s true that younger players fit better, than older players. This is how our squad is different today than maybe a few years ago.”
It would be bad to target nothing but younger players this summer, but for a club who is solely built with the future in mind, in Mauricio Pochettino’s project, they don’t necessarily have a choice.

Well, actually Tottenham does have a choice, but the gist of Spurs’ transfer plans is to go with youth. As it has been a recurring theme since Pochettino first joined in the summer of 2014.
Older players could still be signed, but there might not be a lot, as youth is their main focus.
In any event, before Mauricio Pochettino could think about addressing his squad’s lack of depth/bench, Tottenham must take care of business tomorrow when Spurs travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United.
A point is all the Lilywhites need for second place, but a win would be much better after enduring a three-game mini slump with two draws and one loss.
Here’s how Mauricio Pochettino summed up his team’s feelings recently:
“It’s difficult now to explain the feelings because we feel disappointed after the Chelsea game because in this moment we put ourselves out of the race for the title,” Pochettino added.

“Now to be second in the league is very important for the club. It’s important to go straight away to the group stage of the Champions League because it was a target at the start of the season.”
“We need to feel very happy and very proud. When you analyse all the things that happened during the season from the beginning, to finish second is a great achievement for the club.”
A loss wouldn’t be the end of the world, but it will leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth after a bright season that saw Tottenham almost win the Premier League title.
