Hugo Lloris Explains How Mauricio Pochettino Helped Spurs
Spurs’ current position of second place in the Premier League this season is mostly thanks to Mauricio Pochettino’s ability as a manager, along with his staff, to help create a squad that is built for success.
At the moment, Spurs are in the midst of an improbable title run-in alongside league leaders Leicester City who are having a Cinderella-like story right now with a chance to life the trophy at the end of the season.

And although five points currently separate the top two clubs with four fixtures remaining, there’s a sense of hope and optimism that Spurs could win the title. Should Tottenham fall just short, the Lilywhites have already built up a very good squad that can compete for silverware for years to come.
Which according to Hugo Lloris, is mostly down to Mauricio Pochettino and his staff.
It shouldn’t be surprising to hear the team captain speak highly of the Argentine manager for doing a phenomenal job, and while the French international isn’t selling he and his teammates short even though they’ve put in the hard work for getting Spurs to second place. Lloris knows that Pochettino deserves the most credit.
“The manager deserves a lot of credit for what the club is doing,” said Lloris (quotes via Sky Sports).
“He has changed a lot of things on the training ground, tactically and technically, he has his philosophy, and all the players are the right profile for him.”
“On the pitch we are doing well, but the manager and the staff prepare us in the best way.”
Finding the right players to fit Spurs has been Mauricio Pochettino’s biggest accomplishment this season and it started last summer.
At least nine major players, plus a dozen more give or take, were sold before the season kicked off with two more leaving in January: Andros Townsend (sold to Newcastle United) and Federico Fazio (loaned to Sevilla).

In return, six players came back: Kevin Wimmer, Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Clinton N’Jie and Son Heung-Min in the summer. With Shilow Tracey coming in the winter.
All of these summer moves helped Pochettino improve his team’s defense (the number one priority) and the offense to being the Premier League’s best with 25 goals conceded only and 64 goals scored in a spread out attack that features Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Érik Lamela and Christian Eriksen among others.
For Hugo Lloris, the team’s philosophy is quite simple. And from watching how Spurs play, it’s a team who high-presses their opponents to quickly win the ball back and start a counterattack to score.
“We know what the manager expects, his tactical decisions and where he wants us to play. After two years, we know exactly what we have to do on the pitch.”
“We try to be pro-active, try to get possession, win every challenge, be aggressive, play in the opponent’s half and create chances.”
“Our philosophy is to be really pro-active and not wait for the opponent to make mistakes, but push them into making mistakes. We enjoy the way we are playing.”
At Tottenham’s current pace, they have a chance at doing something great for the club as Lloris put it, which would be winning a Premier League title. But they still need help from Leicester to drop some points. If not, then the next best thing for Spurs is to finish inside the top-four and embark on Champions League football for the second time in their Club’s history while competing for some silverware in future seasons.

“The key is to be focused on ourselves. We know if we are consistent until the end we can be rewarded, of course it’s not just up to us, but Leicester should drop points, if not then they deserve the trophy.”
“We are in a good position and situation and it is a great chance for us. So we need to carry on and we will see what happens at the end of the season. Nobody can guess what will happen.”
“We need to be consistent and not think about what is happening around us. We are strong together. We know where we want to be at the end and we try to work hard and prepare as well as possible.”
“We are very motivated because we have a chance to do something great for the club.”
