Harry Kane’s Start for Spurs Has Been Phenomenal
Harry Kane continues to prove that he is Spurs’ best striker since being given a chance to show what he can do when he was named as a full-time starter in November 2014.
Earlier today, ESPN put out a fantastic article which goes over Spurs’ star striker, Harry Kane, and his fast start. But what’s even better is the current pace that the 22-year-old is on at the moment which sees him standing alongside a group of elite goalscorers who have played in the Premier League.
But before getting to that, something interesting needs to be brought up.

Lost in the craze of Harry Kane’s second season with Spurs, which has produced some fine highlights throughout the year, is that he has only played as a full-time starter for 17 months since Mauricio Pochettino picked him over Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado as his first choice striker.
Now it doesn’t matter how long Kane has been a starter for Spurs, but it is worth pointing out that the England international has made a very big impact relatively quickly to become the guy to help lead Tottenham’s attack for years to come.
Although former Spurs’ manager, Tim Sherwood, helped give Harry Kane his first taste of first-team football with his boyhood club following four loan spells. Officially, it is Mauricio Pochettino who has gotten the best out of the 22-year-old to exceed expectations that no one saw coming.
Literally, not a single person foresaw Harry Kane’s rise as one of Spurs’ best players. And to even be one of the future stars to represent England in this summer’s European Championship as well as the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
While Kane’s start for Spurs has been phenomenal, when matched up against other Premier League greats who have managed to score 20-plus goals in consecutive seasons: Andrew Cole, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler and Alan Shearer, it shows that Harry Kane is one of the best England strikers right now.
And perhaps could maybe, one day, be regarded as one of England’s best ever.
However before getting there though, the 22-year-old needs to produce some more great seasons like he has done in just two years with Pochettino as his manager.
As for 20-goal seasons in Premier League history, Harry Kane stands alongside the likes of Sergio Agüero, Didier Drogba, Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney who have produced plenty of goals for their respective clubs.
In terms of having multiple 20-goal seasons, there have only been four players who have accomplished this feat in their careers. And they are Alan Shearer (seven), Thierry Henry (five), Ruud van Nistelrooy (four) and Les Ferdinand (three).
It’s not far-fetched to think that at 22, Kane can get a few more 20-goal seasons before his career is over. And to do so with only 17 months as a full-time starter is very impressive to say the least.
And there’s a good reason why it’s entirely possible.

For a closer look at what the England international has done since last year, this is what Harry Kane managed to put up when compared to his fellow countryman, Wayne Rooney, and his first two seasons with Manchester United.
Rooney managed to score 27 goals in 5,259 league minutes. A respectable amount no doubt. But looking at Kane’s form since the start of last season, he has scored 43 goals in 5,412 league minutes.
With six more fixtures remaining, Harry Kane could score 50 goals by the end of the year. An insane amount in just under 6,000 minutes dating back to the start of last season.
Of course ESPN decided to compare Rooney’s years from 2008-10, against Harry Kane’s two seasons with Spurs for a closer comparison.
But even then Kane is still a shade better.
Wayne Rooney from 2008-10 managed a goal in every 134 minutes of league football, which is a game and a half. Harry Kane has scored a goal in every 125 minutes, or a game and nearly the end of the first half.

Finally, something to end on another insane stat that showcases how good Harry Kane has been since November 2014. Forty-three goals have been scored since the start of last season, Mauricio Pochettino’s first year managing Spurs, and yet Kane didn’t start until November 9 in a 2-1 loss to Stoke City at White Hart Lane.
Fast forward to the start of this season with a dry spell of only one goal in nine games, and it’s a wonder how Harry Kane managed to score nearly 50 goals in only 66 league appearances (60 starts) in 17 months.
Only three words can describe that kind of production: effective and efficient.
