Two of Tottenham’s best players this season helped England overcome a 2-0 deficit to beat Germany 3-2 in yesterday’s international friendly at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany.

What looked to be a well-even match in the first half quickly turned into a possible win for the reigning World Cup champions.

Germany would take a 1-0 lead in the 43rd minute following a Toni Kroos goal to put the Germans ahead just before half-time and then 2-0 by the 57th minute courtesy of Mario Gómez. If being down a goal late in the first half was bad, the injury to backup goalkeeper, Jack Butland, was worse.

Just moments before conceding the goal, an earlier shot attempt caused some discomfort to the Stoke City ‘keeper making it a bit harder to get his bearings straight before having to dive again to stop Kroos’ incoming shot.

With Joe Hart already injured, Butland got the call to take on the world champs and for the most part was up to the challenge. Keeping England in the game despite some early pressure from Germany.

Following Jack Butland’s injury (right ankle/foot), he would be replaced by Southampton’s Fraser Forster who has been in-form since returning from a broken kneecap suffered last March (on the 21st) against Burnley after clearing a back pass.

In order for England to remain in the game, they needed a goal and quickly.

And who provided? Why it would be Tottenham’s Harry Kane in the 61st minute after navigating through traffic before using the Cruyff turn and slotting one past Manuel Neuer into the bottom left-hand corner.

Kane has been one of the Premier League’s best goal scorers this season alongside, you guessed it, Jamie Vardy who came on as a substitute and helped the Three Lions get on level terms in the 74th minute with a fantastic backheel flick.

The stage was finally set for a dramatic finish. Either the game would end in a two-all draw or Germany would pull off the victory in the closing minutes. Or, England would claim a magnificent comeback in a span of 30 minutes and beat the world champions.

What ended up happening was an excellent finish in both the game’s ending and who came away with the match-winning goal.

On an England corner kick, Eric Dier would run free in the middle of the penalty box and score a header in the 91st minute to seal the win and also his first-ever international goal.

It’s fitting enough to see Harry Kane get on the scoresheet for England once again, but not only that, a Tottenham player helped jump start England’s comeback against Germany and another Tottenham player made sure to finish the job and get the win.

More from Hotspur HQ

With the Foxes and Spurs currently trying to distance themselves from the rest of the pack and make it a two-team race for the Premier League title, it only made England’s win over the world champions that much sweeter for fans of both clubs.

Because here, you have two underdog teams fighting to claim the Premiership title in a year that no one had expected either one of them to be this good.

Let alone this high up the table this late into the season with seven games remaining.

It also symbolizes clearly that all three players, as well as Dele Alli who had another good game (no surprises here) have shown that both Leicester City and Tottenham are the top of the class in the Premier League with the big five all being mediocre at best this term.

The season hasn’t finished just yet, but judging from England’s win over Germany, it wouldn’t be surprising if Tottenham’s players continue to help the Three Lions out moving forward. Seeing as how they’re all relatively young and have plenty of football in front of them to continue getting better.

Next up, England will take on the Netherlands. And another familiar face is soon to join Holland as Tottenham’s backup ‘keeper, Michel Vorm, has been added to the squad following Jasper Cillessan suffering a broken nose.

With Tottenham’s current season, it’s no surprise that plenty of their players are out on international duty right now and representing their country as well as their club very proudly.
