Tottenham haven’t made any effort to sign Saido Berahino since this past summer, but with the striker trying to mend his image. Perhaps Tottenham could take a second look at him.

Much of the fuss over the summer transfer window for Tottenham centered around whether or not the club would sign young English striker Saido Berahino.

In the end Daniel Levy and Jeremy Peace couldn’t agree on a price, Berahino stayed in the West Midlands, and relative hilarity ensued thereafter.

Now, whether or not Berahino’s “I will never play Jeremy Peace” was a typo without a comma before Peace’s name, or an expression of how strong of a negotiator the chairman was. The subject of much speculation in September with most people decided to read it as Berahnino vowing to never wear the Albion shirt again.

So in the early weeks and months of the season Tottenham supporters kept a side eye on Berahino to see how this soap opera would turn out.

The pre-Christmas narrative seemed to revolve around the idea that Berahino was not match fit; with the Daily Mail even calling him “overweight”. Or that he did not have “the right attitude” to deal with the ups and downs of football at the highest level.

But, now after starting five of West Brom’s last eight matches, it feels as if the narrative is beginning to change.

It went from a player who would never find himself in north London for fear he would disrupt the delicate balance Pohettino has cultivated, to maybe this kid is figuring it out and that there might be a place in the squad for him.

Berahino took to Twitter over the weekend to apologize for his actions and many have chimed in over the honesty of his remarks. It’s not wise to speculate on whether or not Berahino is sincere or not, but there are still valuable things one can learn from listening.

What members of the media can discuss, is the way Berahino has played of late and the way he has forced the narrative to turn positive.

He has four goals in his last five starts, and while three of them did come against League One side Peterborough United, it is safe to say that Saido Berahino is beginning to find his form this year.

Both mentally and physically.

Being match fit and doing his best to work his attacking style into a Tony Pulis managed team is no small feat.

These last eleven games will be very telling for the future of the Baggies youngster. Either he can continue to play well and say the right things and ride this momentum to secure himself a move to a better team in the summer — perhaps Tottenham if they’re still interested — or things can go sour.

He can regress and once again find himself in the Midlands frustrated and wondering what could have been. Either way, the ball is in his court, and if Pochettino and Tottenham come knocking over the summer, it could be a major piece in creating a potent offense that is prepared to compete on multiple fronts next season.
