Making your Premier League debut is always a great feeling to have, even if Kevin Wimmer got the opportunity due to Jan Vertonghen being forced off with an apparent knee injury. Despite coming into the game as a second half substitute, Wimmer still talked glowingly of his Premier League debut.

For the time being, Kevin Wimmer who is very capable of playing well alongside Toby Alderweireld, will slot in and continue helping Tottenham maintain their status as the league’s best defense until Vertonghen returns — however long he will be sidelined for.

Here’s Kevin Wimmer on his Premier League debut and winning the game.

Spurs TV: So here at Crystal Palace with Kevin Wimmer. Kevin, a Premier League debut for you today and a win as well. You must be delighted.

Kevin Wimmer: “Yes, it’s honestly a great feeling to get my Premier League debut today. It was a very tough game. When I came on, it was 1-1, It was very close, the game.”

“And we wanted to win this game, we wanted those three points. And of course I tried everything to help the team with my peformance. It’s never easy to come on as a defender for maybe 15 minutes — it was I think — and yeah I’m very happy that we won this game.”

“It was a very important win for us. A very important three points. And of course we’re all very happy that we won this game today.”

STV: You mentioned that it’s difficult to come on as a defender. I mean, what goes through your mind when you come on with 15 minutes to go? You’re not necessarily expecting to come on but you have to switch on straight away don’t you?

More from Hotspur HQ

KW: “Yeah that’s true, you have to be switched on from the first second you come on the pitch. Because Crystal Palace they tried a lot of long balls and they had two very big defenders in front and so it’s never easy to defend guys like this.”

“But next to me, Toby helped me a lot. And we spoke a lot in the game and so it was easier for me when I came on. And yeah, we were of course, lucky that they hit the post twice. But we played very well, we had very good chances.”

“And then amazing goal. But Dele at first, and nearly he scored twice. Then Nabil had a great chance and Nacer did very well, also scored an amaznig goal.”

“And we’re very happy that we won this game, these three points are very important for us. And now we have some time to rest and next week we have a very important FA Cup, which is also a very tough game, and we will now prepare very good for this game.”

“And I think we did very well today and we will try to keep on like this.”

And lastly, Nacer Chadli rounds out today’s edition of Conversation Corner.
