It’s a FA Cup edition of Tottenham Hotspur Links.

Let’s get started on the news. First up, today’s win helps indicate that Mauricio Pochettino, Daniel Levy and Tottenham as a whole don’t need to add a striker or any other players because they have good depth — even with injuries happening this season. As Tottenham were able to withstand them through three competitions so far.

And finally, while the Enfield Independent didn’t necessarily talk about forgoing the FA Cup or Europa League, it’s going to be difficult to play in three competitions while also trying to secure a Champions League berth at the end of the season. At some point, the FA Cup and Europa League will take its toll on Spurs. Right now it’s fine, but if Tottenham’s form dips badly, then it wouldn’t be worth the hassle of fourth round replays, and two-legged European fixtures. These are the links down below.

There’s a concern that Tottenham not buying a striker as an insurance for Harry Kane in case of injury might ruin their season. But after today’s 2-0 win over Leicester City in the FA Cup’s third round replay, with goals from Son Heung-min and Nacer Chadli. Perhaps Mauricio Pochettino is onto something when he says that Spurs don’t need a striker this January?

Surely in the summer they could look for someone or just promote from within. But at this moment in time, the Argentine manager really is pleased with what he’s got so far in his 25-man squad.

“We have one of the best strikers in the world [Harry Kane],” Pochettino said. “If we get another offensive player we need to bring the right one, who will fight for us. Because if you take the wrong decision, maybe you break the balance in the squad and changing room.”

For Mauricio Pochettino, keeping that perfect harmony within the squad and the changing room is equally as important as someone who is talented. Make no mistake though, Tottenham could use some extra depth. But as is, both Pochettino and Daniel Levy are fine with the current squad and are only looking for the right people who fits their club as a player and as a person.

“We are proud of the changing room that we have built, and their performances and how they believe in how they play,” Mauricio Pochettino continued. “Games like this show me that we are going the right way and have taken the right decisions in the past.”

“I can understand that when you don’t score people can be worried, but we have enough quality. This was a good opportunity for Nacer and Son to show that they can score so we are very pleased.”

“We can improve, yes, and if we find the right player, then okay. But if not, I am very happy with the squad that we have.”

It took four games for Tottenham to finally beat Leicester City in the final meeting between both clubs this season. But now there are some things to consider. After advancing into the fourth round of the FA Cup is this the right move to make? Claudio Ranieri has no problem with the loss today because there’s no more cup competitions to worry about. It’s just the Premier League for the Foxes.

For Spurs, once European football returns, Tottenham will be in three competitions at the same time and going further into the FA Cup and Europa League will take its toll eventually. The article linked above by the Enfield Independent, doesn’t necessarily touch on this subject much. But it should be discussed.

Do you want to know why Tottenham have been able to clinch fourth place in the Premier League besides Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United all trying to discover their form and the fact that Spurs have done well up to this point in the season with minimal major injuries?

It’s because they got knocked out of the League Cup in the third round thanks to Arsenal. That’s not to say that Mauricio Pochettino intentionally put out a weaker lineup, the team just didn’t play well.

But now that Spurs are currently fourth in the Premiership, with eyes on a Champions League berth and perhaps a Premier League title. It’s hard to argue that getting knocked out of the League Cup in the third round didn’t severely aid Tottenham’s chances of getting into the top four heading into the Christmas holidays.

So maybe, just maybe, it’s time to shift focus? A Champions League spot is currently on the line and Tottenham are trying to maintain their pace with Manchester City while trying to fend off Manchester United and West Ham United for fourth place at the moment.

Winning the FA Cup would be great. Winning the Europa League would be even better. But to do that would mean sacrificing Pochettino’s regular starters to play more games along with the Premier League to secure at least one trophy.

Initially, winning a trophy is important no matter what it is. But when a golden opportunity such as Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United being below the top four by the halfway point in the season happens. Perhaps focusing on the Premier League should be the top priority.

Because there’s no guarantee that the top clubs in the Premier League will have a repeat season of being off in form like they are now with two-thirds of their original starting managers being sacked. This is, as people would say, a once in a lifetime opportunity to get fourth in the Premier League than win a FA Cup.
