Twice is Not Nice as Tottenham Lose Again at White Hart Lane
Tottenham have now lost three times in the Premier League, two of them at White Hart Lane. They’re clinging onto fourth place with West Ham United and Manchester United one and two points away respectively.
Chances, Tottenham had plenty of them throughout the game.
Now while the final stats showed 21 total attempts with five of them on target for Spurs, it was more than enough to get at least one goal in this game. Which as the final score showed was only a 1-0 defeat to Leicester City. It’s all Spurs needed.
And at one point during the 62nd minute, Tottenham had two chances to get a goal and claim the early lead. Harry Kane would be given a great through ball by Érik Lamela that led him into a one-on-one situation against Leicester ‘keeper, Kasper Schmeichel, and the shot was good.

It went past the Danish international’s arms, it just happened to deflect off of his right elbow. The other problem was that the ball proceeded to bounce just high enough to hit the crossbar ending up as a miss. Although the ball found it’s way back to Dele Alli for another attempt, Alli’s shot didn’t go in either. In fact it was blocked.
So there you have it, the clearest chances at the time in this game for Tottenham didn’t go in. Luck, as you have it, was not on Spurs’ side during this game. And quite frankly throughout these past two games against Leicester City.
If we add in Érik Lamela’s attempt on goal at the 75th minute, well, it wasn’t on target. The ball sailed on him, high and right, missing the net. Clearly everyone at this point was frustrated and Mauricio Pochettino on a replay showed a good reaction to sum up this game from a Tottenham fan’s perspective.
The final nail in the coffin to see Spurs not get a goal was the 79th minute attempt by Dele Alli. Kasper Schemeichel made a great save to keep the game level at 0-0 still. But once again, clear chances to get one goal, just one. And nothing went in Tottenham’s favor. A free header to Robert Huth on a corner was just wow. Unexplainable.
Following this loss, honestly speaking, when looking at the big picture beyond this game. There’s nothing positive to take from this match other than being optimistic.
And that optimistic approach is getting revenge on the Foxes at the King Power Stadium in the third round FA Cup replay and knock out Leicester. A win will be even more special to not only avenge tonight’s 1-0 loss, but to repay the favor when Spurs got eliminated by Leicester City in the FA Cup last year.
Looking at the big picture, another defeat at home and third overall this season in the Premier League has Totteneham letting Manchester City slip ahead of them after they drew today against Everton 0-0.

The Citizens are at 40 points now following their draw. Had Tottenham won, they would only be behind by a single point from Man City. At the same time, yesterday’s 3-3 draw between Manchester United and Newcastle United has the Red Devils just two points behind Tottenham.
Even worse? West Ham United are one point behind Spurs after beating Bournemouth.
So yeah, overall, this defeat to the Foxes is not a feel good moment.
Trying to look ahead to Tottenham’s home game, they’re third in a row in all competitions, against Sunderland can’t be taken for granted.
Seeing as how it took an 82nd minute goal by Ryan Mason in an even match overall based on the final stats. An 18th placed team like the Black Cats is no walk in the park. Not with Totteham showing some visible signs that they can start games very well but end up with nothing to show for it, for a majority of the time during games.
Against Everton and Leicester twice in the FA Cup and this 1-0 loss, the one thing that the Lilywhites had in common was to start off each game great. Excellent even, but they let the other team score first or come back into the game to give Spurs’ fits. Thus forcing Tottenham to try and salvage a draw in the end.
