Time for the the latest edition of Spurs’ Transfer Rumors.

The first transfer rumor to get into might be a day old, but whatever. It’s still news so moving on. Spurs are looking at Chelsea striker, Loïc Rémy, as a possible backup option to help alleviate Harry Kane this season. And although Rémy is 29-years-old, this will only be a loan deal for at most half a season before looking for an actual out-and-out striker in the summer transfer window.

And finally, there’s a five player list that the Boot Room believes can help Tottenham secure a top four finish at the end of the season. Those five players are Michy Batshuayi, Soifane Boufal, Moussa Dembélé, Victor Wanyama and Saido Berahino. Whether any of them will be signed except for Michy Batshuayi remains to be seen. But it’ll be difficult to see any of these players starting over Spurs’ current starting eleven regardless of the Lilywhites’ current injuries right now or if they were fully healthy. Now onto the rumors down below.

This transfer rumor may be a day late, but whatever. Moving on.

It’s not that often that you see Spurs signing a player on loan, and especially so since Mauricio Pochettino took over as manager of Tottenham last May.

Instead, Tottenham are more focused on young talented footballers either through their youth academy or buying them in the transfer market. This strategy is to help build for the future rather than what other clubs are doing which is trying to win now and spend boatloads of money to buy a championship.

For a 29-year-old, regardless of position, Loïc Rémy would be one of Spurs’ oldest players second only to Michel Vorm who is 32 right now. A loan deal for a striker would be a great move as Tottenham don’t have to break the bank to sign someone for only half a season and it helps give them room to actually pursue a different striker during the summer.

The only downside of course, is how Chelsea and Spurs tend to not get along — London derbies and what not. But, with José Mourinho no longer Chelsea manager, and even though Roman Abramovich is the owner, maybe Guus Hiddink might be willing to do business with Tottenham for a player that hasn’t seen too much playing time this season?

More from Hotspur HQ

The Boot Room has put out a list of five players in which they could potentially help Spurs secure a top four finish by the end of the season. Now all of these players listed below have been linked to Tottenham on way or another.

All of them are good players and can definitely add more to this young squad but it’ll be tough to actually sign any of them in all honesty let along, giving them consistent playing time.

Here’s the list:

  1. Michy Batshuayi — staying with Olympique Marseille
  2. Soifane Boufal — expensive
  3. Moussa Dembélé — not as expensive, but a bidding war could ensue
  4. Victor Wanyama — depends on Southampton wanting to lose another key player
  5. Saido Berahino — current attitude/Jeremy Peace could be a problem

If Spurs want to help secure a top four finish by the end of the season then some January signings will need to happen to add more depth and perhaps bring in more players who can actually compete for a starting spot on Mauricio Pochettino’s lineup. But the latter is much harder to find than the former.

Right now, depth is something that Tottenham can use with certain players out with injury this season and three competitions up for grabs for Spurs.

Of course it would be ideal to sign a couple of starters, however it’s hard to find a starter out there in the transfer market who could actually replace someone on Pochettino’s current starting eleven. Whether there are injuries, or assuming that Spurs are completely healthy.

Playing time will be hard, because of Pochettino’s preference to keep a consistent lineup this season.

As is, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a quiet January which the Argentine manager has hinted at before. Or some Dele Alli-type signings with an eye built for the future as usual. Time will tell if Spurs needed some more players in this winter transfer window two to three months down the road. But for now, they’re fine as is.

Mauricio Pochettino just needs to rotate his lineup a bit more is all.
