Here’s the latest edition of Tottenham Hotspur Links.

Despite today’s 1-1 draw against Everton at Goodison Park there are some positives to take moving forward. And to begin with that positive mental attitude here is the first story of the day. It’s The Sport Review’s three talking points following a one-all draw. In one of the three bullet points worth discussing, the most interesting is how Spurs are creating a home away from home no matter where they play.

The second and final story is about Glenn Hoddle and how he believes Tottenham’s consistency this entire Premier League season will be one of their main keys to securing themselves as legitimate title contenders. When compared to the top five heavyweights: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United, it’s hard to not believe that this is Spurs’ best chance to capitalize on these aforementioned teams’ inconsistencies and slow starts. Time for the links below.

There are three talking points by The Sport Review’s Joel Durston, but the main talking point to look at is how Tottenham have created a home away from home. As in, no matter where Spurs play, they still do good — consistently good.

Although it may have been a draw for Tottenham, today’s showing against Everton is only adding more credence to the fact that Spurs are not only good at home but also good on the road.

When looking at the final statistics for Tottenham and how much possession they had, it was at 59 percent with 41 percent going to the Toffees. But in the first half alone, that number was as high as 64 percent for Spurs and only 36 percent for Everton.

Now while possession doesn’t necessarily translate to wins at times, it is still a clear sign that the Lilywhites are comfortable playing anywhere this season and don’t have a lopsided split in their statistics at home and away. Too many times there are teams who can only do good in the confines of their home stadium but not on the road. Other times they happen to be much better on the road than at home; the complete opposite.

This season, Tottenham have managed to be good in both home and away games. That kind of consistency has helped Spurs reach fourth place in the Premier League despite earning nine draws this year and halting Tottenham’s progress just a bit.

Remember how it was mentioned that Tottenham have been consistently good in both home and away games just above? Well it’s that same type of consistency that Glenn Hoddle believes will help make Spurs title contenders over other Premier League heavyweights like Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.

For Hoddle, he sees Tottenham as the second most consistent besides Leicester City this season with both clubs only having two losses.

“Other than Leicester City, Tottenham have been the most consistent side in the Premier League this season,” the ex-England international told the Daily Mail.

“Unlike Arsenal, their defeats haven’t been meltdowns. There have only been two, and one of those came from a last-minute Newcastle goal.”

“The other was on the first day of the season at Manchester United. Their back four looks to be the best, having conceded the fewest goals this season.”

It doesn’t end there of course. Along with having tied with Leicester City with the fewest amount of losses this season, the usual teams who generally compete for the Premier League title: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United have had differing results so far.

Even with Arsenal in first place, when you factor in their Champions League campaign — which they barely made it out of the group stage mind you — the Gunners have been inconsistent at times. Still they are in first so maybe all is not so bad for them.

Here’s Glenn Hoddle continuing on about Tottenham’s chances for a Premier League title and their first division title in 55 years.

“In this extraordinary season, with Chelsea falling by the wayside, Manchester United weaker than ever, Manchester City inconsistent and even Arsenal prone to some awful performances, they [Spurs] have an opportunity which may not present itself again.”

“This team has a chance to be better and they must seize it. They need to exploit the fact that Chelsea and United are weak at the moment and that is why I believe the board need to grasp the moment as much as the players.”

“The players would have settled for the top four at the start of the season. Now I believe everyone at the club should reach for more.”

“If they maintain this form for a couple of months, the dressing room ought to be able to summon the belief that they can win it.”

The goal at the beginning of the year was to improve upon last season’s fifth place finish. But it had more to do with the play on the pitch along with getting a higher position. With how the season has gone now, the goal is still to earn a better finish than last term. But with the added bonus of trying to achieve more and that’s contending for the Premier League title.
